In the mid summer of 2022 my cell phone rang ...... Smithsonian was on the caller ID ........ Spam I thought ......... then I listened to the Voice Mail and it was actually the Smithsonian National Zoo inquiring about KuneKunes for a new exhibit in their Kids Farm are of the Zoo.  I was in absolute shock to say the least.  I texted them back and asked a good time to chat and the next days phone call started the process of getting 3 Red Roof KuneKune barrows to the Smithsonian.  After I submitted 5 KuneKune references, 3 personal references, 3 vet references the head of the Smithsonian Zoo as well as another member of their team came for a Farm Visit Red Roof KuneKunes was approved to supply KuneKunes to the Zoo!  The process took almost 6 months.

The Zoo allowed us to pick the ones we would like to send.  They each had to have multiple tests.  I chose to use Virginia Tech Large Animal Veterinary Clinic and they were awesome!

Mike and I delivered them in July of 2023.  What an experience to see the inner workings of the Zoo.  It was amazing to say the least.

Otis, Norman and Winston are ofter featured in ZOO WALKS on Facebook and we love watching them grow!
