Transporting Your New KuneKune Home
Getting your KuneKune home safely is very important whether it is a piglet or an adult.
The goal in transporting KuneKunes is to keep it as stress free as possible and avoid harmful outdoor elements from interfering in the safe transport of your KuneKunes.
Most clients prefer to pick up at Red Roof KuneKues as this allows for a hands on experience, a farm tour and lots of questions.
Transport is an option for clients that are too far away or schedules does not allow pick up.
There are 2 transport options:
1 - Red Roof KuneKunes can provide transport up to 10 hours total round trip.
The cost for this $28 per hour total time in the pig is transported inside of our vehicle.
The cost for this is $32 per hour total time if our trailer is used.
2 - Red Roof KuneKunes uses a few professional ground transporters.
We are happy to put you in touch with them to make transport arrangements.
PIGLETS - 8 to 16 weeks of age
The best way to transport piglets home is in a dog crate inside your vehicle.
The second preferred method is a trailer with good ventilation.
The back of a pick up is not a good choice as hot sun, rain, cold temps etc. are hard on a piglet who is already a bit stressed with its changing homes and can contribute to shipping fever.
Dog crates can be either wire or the plastic type.
Hay should be used as bedding.
A medium sized crate will fit (1) 8-10 week old piglet.
A XL crate will fit (2) 8-10 week old piglets.
For piglets older than 10 weeks old 1 large crate per piglet is suggested.
JUVENILES & ADULTS - 17 week and up
For older KuneKunes a trailer is required.
